Tampa, true to form, won the home series against Toronto (last home series loss was in April). Now the hapless Orioles pay a visit. The Rays are 25-15 in 1-run games, tied for best in the league, winning their last two in said fashion. For the Red Sox, three more games off the schedule with no gain in the standings. The Sox will probably need to start sweeping series soon to make up any ground, absent of a complete collapse by Tampa.
The Sox will have their hands full when the Chicago White Sox come to town for three over the weekend. Comparatively, this is s big weekend for both Tampa and the Sox. The Sox playing against a team in the Midst of a division battle with Minnesota, and Tampa playing against a team that has home games against the Sox that sound like Fenway and have long since made their tee times for October.
Tampa fans are 'happy'.

Minnesota is in the midst of a brutal 14-game road trip. So far they have fared poorly at 3-5, losing 5 of their last 6 after taking the first two in LA vs the Angels.
Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks opened the door for the Dodgers with 4 straight losses but the Dodgers (and Manny) would have none of it, responding with 7 straight losses of their own, falling to 3.5 games behind the Snakes.
"The Trade" is looking better and better.
Hope you enjoyed your Birthday, Christa!
In an 8-3 vote, judges said there were no grounds to overturn a law approved in 2007 by the Mexico City assembly that legalized abortions on demand during the first trimester and established free public clinics.
Yep. Kinda like FiOS "Video On Demand".
Just dial it up, rip it out, flush it down. Bingo. Done!

The AfPak war is not going away; it's coming at our windshield at a hundred miles per hour. More than 40 nations are involved. No matter who is our next President, the challenges will be enormous. At this point, some of us are wondering which of our allies will quit first. It is highly unlikely to be the Canadians; they are too tough and are fully engaged. Definitely not the British. But what about the French or the Spanish? Al Qaeda and the Taliban are busy trying to split off the weaker-spirited member-nations.
One thing this war terribly needs is more long-term, firsthand reporting from combat as well as non-combat areas. Many journalists argue that embeds give only the Public Affairs vantage point, but—counter-intuitively, perhaps—the opposite is true. The closer writers are to the action, the less interface they have with Public Affairs. I can go for weeks sometimes without much communication with Public Affairs, because I don't need official statements. The journalists who rely almost completely on Public Affairs statements are the ones who are not there to see events with their own eyes. And so, it's the un-embedded journalists (the other 99%) who are most at mercy of the Public Affairs machine. In AfPak, my intentions are to balance embedded with unembedded work. When I came to Afghanistan in 2006, it was completely without the military, but that was fantastically dangerous. British soldiers can hardly believe that a friend and I drove
back roads, winding through unpatrolled villages, from Lashkar Gah to Camp Bastion, and back, without the military. There was no drama (save for the suicide bomb we barely missed on 8 April 2006 at the Lashkar Gah PRT), and the unembedded time with normal Afghans, farmers and such, was very helpful.
If we thought the reporting from Iraq was atrocious, please look at what is (not) coming out of Afghanistan. At the current rate, reporting to the American public will be almost completely secondhand, regurgitated from email and phone interviews, and most embeds will be like the war tourism we so often saw in Iraq. There are British and Canadians doing more firsthand reporting, but the Americans seem to be leaving it mostly to the winds.
And so this is not a tropical storm warning. This is not a warning about high seas ahead. We are talking about Hurricane Afghanistan, without weather reporters. But if there are no cameras there to record the damage, will it really have happened? We have a military that is now very experienced in counterinsurgency. The military knows what it's doing from the NCOs up the 4-star generals. These are among the few people I trust to know what we need in Afghanistan. They are our best, and we cannot allow them to be fed into some political meat-grinder.
As I wrote in 2006, Afghanistan is the new hot war. We are on a collision course with heavy fighting in the near future. Victory is crucial. We have our best people fighting. But we also need our best journalists and writers here. Our political process cannot be trusted. We must have public auditing in the media, or many politicians will not support our commanders, and those politicians will mangle Afghanistan like they did Iraq. Without top-notch journalism, Afghanistan could become America's forgotten war. After we lose it.
It's Real. It's not some 'hope of change' fiasco.

The sobering truth about this media darling:
Is Barack Obama a socialist? The abundant evidence
Obama: By any measure, one of the biggest spenders in the Senate
Obama's confiscatory and authoritarian tax plan: the ten specific tax increases he is planning to impose upon Americans
Offshore drilling: how, while Obama works to ensure that Americans can't touch this much-needed energy, Cuba and China are preparing to drill for oil and gas just off the coast of Florida
Second Amendment imperiled: Obama's support for legislation banning the manufacture, sale and possession of handguns and assault weapons, and requiring mandatory waiting periods, with background checks, to purchase guns resulting in only criminals having access to weapons of 'self defense'
America's successful economic model: how Obama, rather than seeking to protect and preserve it, is obsessed with tearing it down and replacing it with a government-focused "solution" -- one that has a history of failure - called SOCIALISM
How, rather than supporting the right to keep and bear arms under any circumstance -- as the Second Amendment clearly affords -- Obama has often voiced his support for gun use only in certain activities, like hunting
Obama's public disapproval of Justices Alito and Roberts: how it proves that knowledge and support of the U.S. Constitution isn't what matters to him, but rather a judicial activism that imposes Far-Left principles upon the American people - a "Living Constitution"
Obama's ideal choice to fill any Supreme Court vacancy that opens up during his presidency: Hillary Clinton
How Obama has done nothing to ensure that the votes of our military men and women are counted -- and has even refused to co-sponsor Senate legislation safeguarding the votes of our military personnel (while eagerly sponsoring legislation to extend voting rights to convicted felons, including robbers, rapists, and murderers). Ask Yourself This: Who is more important in Obama's eyes - The Military or Criminals?
Obama: intent on creating a highly regulated economy with trade barriers up, closing markets and returning to Hoover protectionist policies that failed miserably
How, if Obama is elected president, he will be so beholden to environmental lobbyists that he will not be able to change the doomed energy policies of the past
Obama's "prescription" for the health care problem: adding another huge government-run healthcare boondoggle financed by employers and the taxpayer - bigger government, higher taxes for you and I
The largely unnoticed comments Obama has at least twice made, declaring the U.S. is "no longer a Christian nation" but is also a nation of others -- including Muslims and nonbelievers - "In God We No Longer Trust"???
How Obama steadfastly refuses to be honest with the American people about our progress in Iraq -- and how he and his fellow Democrats are depending on failure in Iraq to help them win in 2008
A question of honesty: Obama's false statements about never having been a Muslim -- when abundant evidence demonstrates he was known as a Muslim as a child in Indonesia
Obama's war on the Patriot Act -- and how neither he nor other Patriot Act critics have ever produced any specific allegations of abuses under the law
16 million American jobs that would be affected by Obama's arrogant trade policies
Obama's foreign aid bill: yet another attempt at the redistribution of wealth on a global scale
How Obama continues to be dishonest about defending America -- while mapping out a foreign policy that would amount to nothing more than appeasing America's sworn enemies
Don't allow Obama's soaring rhetoric to turn off your mind, stifle your dissent, and accept extreme, misguided remedies to our nation's challenges! Awaken your friends and coworkers to the threat this man poses to America -- before it's too late.
[I am **** and I approved this message]
He is Barack Obama, the man who conquered the mighty Clintons and stands poised to enter the White House.
Many among the media and his followers have elevated him to nearly divine status. Barack Obama has escaped realistic appraisal and serious-minded critique more than any man (or woman) who has ever gotten this close to the Oval Office.
But behind the frenzied media adulation, Barack Obama is no messiah figure. He is a mere man. Even worse, he is a politician.
Despite the hype, Barack Obama doesn't represent "change" or new thinking in American politics at all. In reality, he is a far-left liberal politician in the mold of Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, Al Gore, Mike Dukakis, and Walter Mondale -- but with charm and political savvy that rivals that of Bill Clinton.
Obama is no angel "delivered to us," but who is no devil either. He is no Manchurian candidate for Islam, but neither does he represent any new politics. Through the archives of Obama's time in the Illinois state senate reveals new and unexplored aspects of Obama's career -- proving that there is less than meets the eye to Obama's airy rhetoric about "Change" and "Hope." The real Barack Obama certainly is a man of hope: hope to govern America from the far Left. Obama will further divide America along the same lines as it has been divided for decades.
A messiah? Hardly. As a man, Obama has unsurprising and common character flaws that do not set him apart from most. As a politician, he has lacked the courage to seek true reform. As a state senator, he silently and at times vocally cooperated with Chicago's Democratic Machine to preserve one of the most overtly corrupt political systems in the nation. And he maintains his silence even now that he has made it big and has the political capital to do something about it, because his closest political allies -- the ones who drafted and gave him popular, must-pass bills to herd through the state legislature -- are waist-deep in that corruption.
As a policy-maker, Obama has very bad ideas that would hurt America -- ideas no better than those espoused by Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, Barbara Boxer, or any of Obama's other liberal ideological soulmates on Capitol Hill. America will not end under a President Obama, but it could be a very different place from the one we know now: an America burdened by the higher taxes Obama has promised for redistribution, and a Supreme Court full of young judges enthralled by the notion of "living, breathing Constitution" that says pretty much whatever they want it to say.
It is imprudent in the extreme -- and dangerous for our survival as a nation -- for Americans to entertain false hopes about what Obama stands for and what he can accomplish in the way of changing history and American attitudes. We must move beyond the rhetoric, expose the sobering truth about the real Barack Obama: a typical big-government politician, the #1 most liberal U.S. senator, and -- if he were commander in chief -- a serious threat to our national security.
His soaring rhetoric offers "change." He promises a utopian administration of unity, bipartisanship, and compromise that will bring about this "change." In reality, however, he is a Far-Left political hack and hustler whose policies could do nothing less than destroy America as we know it. As President, Barack Obama could bring back President Jimmy Carter's rock-bottom economy of double-digit inflation and unemployment, throwing millions into poverty and ending once and for all the great sustained wave of prosperity that Ronald Reagan set in motion.
Denver! Are you READY TO ROCK? DO YOU HAVE A DREAM? IT'S NOT HILLARY - OH NO! IT'S NOT BILL - NO WAY! I GIVE YOU... I GIVE YOU...

Now the question is: What does Dave do for *you* on your Birthday?

It wasn't a speech about Obama or the democrats insomuch as it was a speech about (hold your hats, folks) how Hillary is going to "prove to you that you stupid democrats picked the wrong person for the job."
Yep. Love that Democratic Unity. You should be real proud of the Clintons right now. Can you beleive Bill Clinton actually made reference to how he won even though the 'republicans said he had no experience'...Uh, Bill. did ya even look at the Job you did as Prez? My God, only Jimmy Carter was worse...
Let's hope and pray that McCain picks Mitt Romney - a little home-grown cookin' will make this race worth following. Otherwise, I'm moving to Canada and taking up a real sport like Hockey. At least the turn both directions...Vrooom Vrooom!

There seems to be a modicum of concern in Rays-Town as the lead shrinks to it's smallest in 10 days: Inside Pitch The downside of the Rays' success is that it has increased expectations. When they lost to Toronto 6-2 on Tuesday, it marked their first back-to-back losses in nearly a month. But because it was the opening of a key homestand that leads into a rugged trip, and because the Red Sox won again, shrinking the Rays' AL East lead to 3 1/2 games—the smallest it has been in 10 days—there seemed to be some concern. Manager Joe Maddon said he was pleased with the effort and not worried, pointing out the Rays could still win the series. And outfielder Eric Hinske said much of the same: "It's just one game." [As an aside, my dissertation of a purely statistical opinion does not pervade my fandom to the Red Sox. That *cannot* be questioned, even by the starry-eyed Edgehill Road neophytes. I was simply pointing out that from a purely statistical perspective given the past performance from this year only, the Sox chances of winning the division were statistically scant. Naturally, I want them to win everything, and of course no opposing statistical evidence was presented, and that I am not surprised by, as that would actually take a certain amount of work on the parties involved. Much easier to just sit and throw bombs from the sidelines, channel-flipping, waiting for 'Idol' in January, puffing on a cig, eh? :)] Go B's! |

When Brokaw pointed out that the Catholic church "feels very strongly" that life begins at conception, Pelosi said: "I understand. And this is like maybe 50 years or something like that. So again, over the history of the church, this is an issue of controversy."
In an interview with FOX News on Tuesday, Archbishop Donald Wuerl said people need to reflect more before they start talking about church doctrine. He also issued a statement calling Pelosi's explanation of the church's abortion stance "incorrect."
"The current teaching of the Catholic Church on human life and abortion is the same teaching as it was 2,000 years ago," Wuerl noted. "From the beginning, the Catholic Church has respected the dignity of all human life from the moment of conception to natural death."
Wuerl cited a passage from the church's catechism that condemns abortion as "gravely contrary to moral law."
"Since the first century the church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion," the catechism states. "This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable."
Biden disagreed, as evidenced by a 2006 interview he gave to C-SPAN, which asked him about abortion.
"That debate in our church has not morphed, but changed over a thousand years," Biden said. "It always is viewed by the church as something that is wrong, but there's been gradations of whether it was wrong. You know, from venial or mortal sin, as we Catholics say, and versions of it."
But Biden added that since Pope Pius IX's reign (1846-1878), "it's been pretty clear that's been automatic — moment of conception."
Over the weekend, Biden's pro-choice views raised the ire of Denver Archbishop Charles Chaput.
"I presume that his integrity will lead him to refrain from presenting himself for communion, if he supports a false 'right' to abortion," Chaput told The Associated Press.
As for Pelosi, Chaput called her "a gifted public servant of strong convictions and many professional skills. Regrettably, knowledge of Catholic history and teaching does not seem to be one of them."
Chaput added that abortion "is always gravely evil, and so are the evasions employed to justify it."
During that 2004 presidential campaign, Chaput and a dozen other bishops called on Democratic nominee John Kerry to refrain from taking Communion. The church has also objected to former GOP presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani taking Communion.
"I think some of it is regional," said Pelosi, whose district encompasses San Francisco, in a recent interview with C-SPAN. "It depends on the bishop of a certain region and, fortunately for me, Communion has not been withheld and I'm a regular Communicant, so that would be a severe blow to me if that were the case."
On Saturday, when Obama introduced Biden as his running mate, both men made a point of mentioning Biden's Catholicism. Obama has struggled to win over Catholics, 52 percent of whom voted for President Bush in 2004.

Paula Abdul is "thrilled" that old friend Kara DioGuardi is joining her as the fourth judge on American Idol.
"It's about time another girl joined," Abdul told PEOPLE Monday at the U.S. Open opening night celebration in Flushing, N.Y. "More girl power."
Abdul, 46, who has been an Idol judge for the past seven seasons, says DioGuardi's songwriter and producer experience will bring a different mix to the table. "She's going to be a little more different and more from the industry standpoint."
This isn't the first time the pop singer has worked with DioGuardi. The two wrote a song for Kylie Minogue called "Spinning Around."
Despite initial reports of a dustup after Abdul told a Phoeniz, Ariz., radio station Monday, "I am concerned about the audience and their acceptance … time will tell," both Abdul and DioGuardi say there are no hard feelings.
"Anybody with the right brain would say something like that," DioGuardi told reporters yesterday.
But will adding another female judge take the spotlight away from Abdul? "No," says the singer. "This is great for the show. I've been waiting for this. I really have and people will love her. She's great!" –Jeffrey Slonim and Paul Chi, with additional reporting by Monica Rizzo

"There are two other issues with which Mr. Obama must grapple, and far from helping with any of these, Mr. Biden actually makes Mr. Obama's path more difficult. The first is that Mr. Obama's other big challenge is convincing moderate Americans he shares their values. He is already seen by many as a liberal, big-city politician who says people cling to guns and religion out of bitterness, associates with radicals, and attended a church with a radical theology. Mr. Biden is a fierce foe of gun rights, ardently opposes restrictions on abortion that have widespread support and promotes gay rights.
He supports higher taxes, bigger government and socialized healthcare.
He supports higher taxes, bigger government and socialized healthcare.
He supports higher taxes, bigger government and socialized healthcare.
He supports higher taxes, bigger government and socialized healthcare.
He supports higher taxes, bigger government and socialized healthcare.
That doesn't exactly help Mr. Obama with blue-collar voters in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Michigan. The second is Mr. Biden's lack of executive experience.
The second is Mr. Biden's lack of executive experience.
The second is Mr. Biden's lack of executive experience.
The second is Mr. Biden's lack of executive experience.
The second is Mr. Biden's lack of executive experience.
The second is Mr. Biden's lack of executive experience.
Not only has he never been a governor or a cabinet secretary, he has never been a mayor, an agency head, or served in any other executive role, not even prosecutor or military officer. Given that Mr. Obama also lacks that experience, having two career legislators heading the executive branch of our government might create doubts. ... More broadly, it cuts against Mr. Obama's central campaign theme of change. His message is Washington is broken, and the old establishment needs to be swept away in favor of new blood and a new vision.
How does picking someone who has been in Washington a decade longer than Mr. McCain jive with Mr. Obama's contention that Mr. McCain has been in Washington too long to change it?

"We, the members of the New Republican Party, believe that the preservation and enhancement of the values that strengthen and protect individual freedom, family life, communities and neighborhoods and the liberty of our beloved nation should be at the heart of any legislative or political program presented to the American people." —Ronald Reagan
"The 110th Congress, whose term officially ends in January, hasn't... attacked high gasoline prices. But it has used its powers to celebrate watermelons and to decree the origins of the word 'baseball.' Barring a burst of legislative activity after Labor Day, this group of 535 men and women will have accomplished a rare feat. In two decades of record keeping, no sitting Congress has passed fewer public laws at this point in the session—294 so far—than this one. That's not to say they've been idle. On the flip side, no Congress in the same 20 years has been so prolific when it comes to proposing resolutions—more than 1,900, according to a tally by the nonpartisan Taxpayers for Common Sense. With the mostly symbolic measures, Congress has saluted such milestones as the Idaho Potato Commission's 70th anniversary and recognized soil as an 'essential natural resource.' As legislation on gasoline prices, tax fixes and predatory lending
languish, Congress has designated May 5-9 as National Substitute Teacher Recognition Week, and set July 28 as the Day of the American Cowboy. The resolutions, which generally don't carry the force of law, can originate in either the House or Senate. However, some types of resolutions establish the federal budget, authorize the president to go to war, or condemn actions such as the genocide in Darfur. Even among the 294 laws passed thus far, many were symbolic in nature. Many of the post offices named by this Congress honor servicemen and -women killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. In the 435-member House, fully one-quarter of the workweek is typically devoted to debating and passing symbolic measures." —Elizabeth Williamson
"With the selection of Delaware Sen. Joe Biden as the Democrats' vice presidential nominee this weekend, the 2008 presidential campaign, which actually began way back on November 3, 2004, is coming down the stretch. The Democrats will hold their national pep rally this week. Republican presidential nominee John McCain will announce his running mate in a couple days. And then the Republicans will hold their national pep rally the following week. From there, it'll be a two-month sprint to the finish line on November 4. The day after which the 2012 presidential campaign will immediately begin. Lord help us. But back to Biden and the timing of his announcement. As columnist and media strategist Cheri Jacobus noted...
'In politics, when you want to bury bad news, you make sure it hits late Friday and Saturday. So why did Barack Obama hold off on his announcement of Joe Biden as his veep pick until the slowest possible news cycle?'
Jacobus explains that 'By waiting until the weekend, Barack Obama was able to skirt any and all scrutiny, public vetting or criticism by Rush Limbaugh and the rest of conservative talk radio and cable television. In other words, he wanted no 'bad news' and was confident he would get ample positive coverage from the mainstream media.'
Indeed Jacobus notes, 'The media is putty in the hands of Barack Obama.'
Fortunately, the world no longer has to wait for the likes of Katie Couric to get the lowdown and skinny on fast-breaking news. Bloggers were all over the Biden announcement like white on rice. Minutes after the decision was reported, conservatives had anti-Biden talking points streaking across the Internet. Bless Al Gore for inventing it." —Chuck Muth
According to this highly subjective analysis, by my reckoning the Boston Red Sox fall short by 5 games from winning the Division, based on the strength of schedule and their current home/away win percentages. Of course, this 'analysis' is highly subjective, but it does give you an idea of how muc better the Sox will have to play than the Rays to get a whiff of the division lead. Given their Home/Away schedules, the Rays actually gain 1/2 game over the remaining season due to their .500 historical on-the-road play this season, having an 8 wins to 5.5 win edge over the Fenway Faithful. The extra home games of the Sox are not enough to statistically overcome that 2.5 game edge over the final games, as the Sox have a statistical edge of 13.39 - to - 11.57 edge at home over the Rays. This surmises to be 18.96 wins for the Sox to 19.57 wins for the Rays over the remaining games. Of course, the numbers don't lie but the conclusions may, and you *still* have to play the games. It would be a more complete analysis if I included the CWS and MIN teams, which I will endeavor to do over the course of today. I would say that should the Red Sox close the gap within reach going into the final series against the Yankees, you can be *sure* that Cashman and the boys would love nothing better than to put up a great fight in that Final series. That is a given regardless of the standings, i'm sure. Health Alert
Environmental Defense Fund has issued a health advisory for striped bass due to high levels of PCBs, mercury and pesticides.
Summary
Over 70% of the striped bass population visits the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries for spawning and nursery grounds. During the 1970s and early 1980s, overfishing and habitat degradation (due to pollution) in the Chesapeake Bay decimated the striped bass population. Severe fishing restrictions in the early 1990s and community efforts to improve environmental conditions have allowed the stock to rebound to record levels, however.
Nummy nums! Love those PCBs, mercury and pesticides!

Barack Obama, Democratic Presidential hopeful, announced his Vice President Running Mate this morning in a Town Hall meeting in Nahwood, Massachusetts. In an effort to shore up confrontational attitudes towards the military, Obama has selected long-time democrat and Dorchester native Les MacNiven. Mr. MacNiven, retired from Military service from the Marines, when asked from his home in Podunk Novi, Michigan, said "I'd be honored to serve this great man to the best of my ability. I think he's so 'special'. Special! Special! Duz yus dink his special tooos?" 'Mac', or 'Les', as his friends call him, has three children. One of his children, Mary, had something to say as well about the whole situation. "Well, I don't think my dad is going to like the White House. I mean, who the heck is gonna cut the lawn? Not my dad, that's for sure. Jeez. He can't even start a Snow Blower." Ah, the innocence of youth. :) |
To the tune of "Something Tells Me" as in "Something Tells Me I'm Into somethin' Good...", was a song they changed the words to. It went:
"Somethin' Tells me I'm livin' in Nahwood..."
O.M.G. And, the 'Nahwood' was really, really over accented, kinda like the way Di says it. "Naaaaahhhhhhhwood", you know, being a Naaaaahwoodite. (Norwoodian is more accurate. The suffix -ite denotes a belief system, but I digress).
Talk about wetting yourself...
Diane, you would have busted a vein! No Shit!
Doh!
They said they would replay 'The Nahwood Song' Monday Morning on the 'Lorin and Wally Show'?
Stay tuned!

The righthander, who entered this season as Boston's top prospect and one of the brightest young pitchers in all of baseball, has struggled since May, going 0-7 with a 9.21 ERA in his last 10 major league appearances.
Wow. Must have been a tough one for Tito...NOT.
Well, if it goes badly, at least we'll have the Bruins and Nascar.
Go Fast. Turn Left. Alot like Baseball, eh?

Jason Varitek had nothing to say today, at least to us, about his divorce. And there are few details in the documents filed in Gwinnett County, Ga. Seems the Sox catcher and his wife, Karen, split June 7 and are living separately. In his complaint, filed at the end of July, the team captain contends the marriage is "irretrievably broken" and there are "no prospects for a reconciliation." The couple, who were married Jan. 6, 1996, have three young daughters, ages 8, 6, and 3. The attorneys in the case did not return calls today.
Varitek is in the final year of a four-year, $40-million contract he signed after the BoSox won the World Series in 2004. He'll be a free agent at the end of this season, though he turns 37 in April and is hitting just .214 before tonight's game.

Perhaps this sheds some light on his pathetic plate performance this year.
Of course, you'll both have to compete with Dave, so I'm not sure how that will pan out...but, somehow, I'm not jealous.
Photos released online show the large, hairy beast crammed into a freezer where it was apparently being preserved.
The beast is 7-foot-7 and weighs more than 500 pounds, a news released issued by the searchingforbigmacniven.com Web site reported. It has red eyes and human-like teeth.
The supposed discoverers, Matthew Whitton and Rick Dyer, are believed to have found the creature's body in the woods of northern Michigan.
Whitton is a Clayton County police officer who has been on medical leave since being shot in July and Dyer is a former correctional officer, the Novi Journal-Constitution reported.
A well-known "Big-Mac" hunter Tom Biscardi said he believes the find is authentic. Tom is often seen at nearby local McDonald's restaurants.
Details of the expedition and the exact location where the body was found are being kept a secret, but rumor has it the body was discovered in rural Michigan in the Novi area.
More images of the creature and the DNA samples will be presented Friday.

"Here's the record when it comes to Georgia. Obama, on learning of the Soviet invasion, played it cool. It was 'important... for all sides to show restraint.'
McCain, by contrast, demanded that Russia 'immediately and unconditionally' pull its forces out of Georgia... McCain... understood the stakes in the affair... Does Obama understand...?" —William Murchison
"Georgia, whose desire for NATO membership had U.S. support, is not in NATO because some prospective members of McCain's league of democracies, e.g. Germany, thought that starting membership talks with Georgia would complicate the project of propitiating Russia. NATO is scheduled to review the question of Georgia's membership in December... If Georgia were in NATO, would NATO now be at war with Russia? More likely, Russia would not be in Georgia." —George Will
"If we had a stronger relationship with Russia, we could exercise strong diplomacy to stop this effort against Georgia. We should immediately go to the United Nations Security Council, condemn Russia's action, and then get the Security Council to pass a strong resolution getting the Russians to show some restraint." —New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, a former UN ambassador who should know better **Uh, Bill, Russia has veto power on the UN Security Council.

The following is a (mis)statement by Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama on the Military Commission 's guilty verdict in the Salim Hamdan case. "I commend the military officers who presided over this trial and served on the hearing panel under difficult and unprecedented circumstances. They and all our Armed Forces continue to serve this country with valor in the fight against terrorism. That the Hamdan trial — the first military commission trial with a guilty verdict since 9/11 — took several years of legal challenges to secure a conviction for material support for terrorism underscores the dangerous flaws in the Administration's legal framework. It's time to better protect the American people and our values by bringing swift and sure justice to terrorists through our courts and our Uniform Code of Military Justice. And while it is important to convict anyone who provides material support for terrorism, it is long past time to capture or kill Usama bin Laden and the terrorists who murdered nearly 3000 Americans." The following is a statement by Republican presidential candidate John McCain on the Military Commission's verdict: "I welcome today's guilty verdict in the first trial held under the Military Commissions Act (MCA). This process of bringing terrorists to justice has been too long delayed, but I'm encouraged that it is finally moving forward. I supported that legislation, which was a good-faith effort by Congress to meet the Supreme Court's direction to establish a process to bring terrorist detainees to trial. Salim Ahmed Hamdan, a trusted confidante of Usama Bin Laden, was provided a full hearing of the charges against him and was represented by counsel who vigorously defended him. The jury found that the prosecution lawyers had proven, beyond a reasonable doubt, that Hamdan had aided terrorists by supplying weapons to Al Qaeda and Taliban forces in Afghanistan. This process demonstrated that military commissions can effectively bring very dangerous terrorists to justice. The fact that the jury did not find Hamdan guilty of all of the charges brought against him demonstrates that the jury weighed the evidence carefully. Unlike Senator Obama who voted against the MCA and favors giving Al Qaeda terrorists direct access to U.S. civilian courts to contest their detention, I recognize that we cannot treat dangerous terrorists captured on the battlefield as we would common criminals." The only Dangerous Flaw is voting Obama into office and his sympathy for allowing access to US Courts for terrorists. |
I have personally been going to Greyhound Tracks since the early 80's and I am aware that some problems did exist with regards to the treatment of greyhounds in some areas. Most all of these problems stemmed from *other* parts of the country. The Northeast has one of the cleanest animal treatment records with respect to greyhounds in the country. The kennels are clean, treatment fair. After all, these racing Greyhounds are the kennels 'athletes', if you will. It would be like the Patriots abusing Tom Brady or The Red Sox abusing Big Papi. And, all you need to do is watch the reactions of a Racing Greyhound at the finish of a race - tail-waggers all!
Don't let uninformed fear and a misunderstanding of animal rights sway you. Do some research before you vote. Go to a track. Visit a kennel. Make an informed vote.
The true problem is the State's unwillingness to allow Casinos or Slot Machines at race tracks across Massachusetts. Revenues from these other gambling activities add to the purse pools of the associated tracks, benefitting all, improving facilities and injecting needed revenues to the tracks and kennels.
Time for Massachusetts to crawl out of the Blue Laws mentality and come into the 21st Century.
My 2c.
I've never seen so many guys hit on Dave before. You'd have thought he was a street hooker in New Orleans!
Anyway, I watched out for him. I had to actually walk up to this one very persistent 'gentleman' and indicate to him that if he continued I was going to hit him. He got the message and scurried away...Nobody messin' with 'My Man Dave' - Nobody!
The Village People were great - especially the Army Guy. Reminded me of you somewhat, and I got to high-five them at the end of the show at the foot of the stage.
Small Beer: $6.50
Big Beer: $10
Dave getting hit on by other men: PRICELESS!

puppies GERMAN SHORT HAIRED POINTER FOR SALEWHO TOLD YOU IT COULDN'T BE DONE, AND WHAT GREAT ACHIEVEMENTS HAS HE PERFORMED THAT QUALIFIED HIM TO SET UP LIMITATIONS FOR YOU? You will find as you go through life that those who give advice most freely are precisely the individuals who are least qualified to do so. Busy, successful people don't have an interest in telling you how to live your life. They are busy living their own. Failures or mediocre people have all the time in the world. They also delight in seeing you fail, and are quick to say "I told you so" when you experience a temporary setback. If someone tells you that what you are attempting to achieve is impossible or not worth the effort, take a close look at them and what they have accomplished with their lives. The chances are good that you will find they haven't done much. Successful people are optimistic people. They have the habit of success because they learned long ago to listen to themselves and not to those who would like to see them fail. |
Ok, Dave's bad 'cuz, you know, I be Teflon... :) "Bay hits for power, he walks, runs well, plays defense, hustles, listens, cares. On paper, he's Manny with a little less bat, a little more athleticism and a lot more commitment." Accuscore: 10,000 simulations... JASON BAY A FINE REPLACEMENT FOR MANNY The Red Sox are happy that they acquired Jason Bay whose average (.282), on-base percentage (.375) and slugging percentage (.519) are only slightly lower than Manny Ramirez's (.299, .398, and .529) and Bay will not create the headaches for management and teammates. Unlike Griffey in Cincinnati or Manny Ramirez in Los Angeles, AccuScore does not expect this trade to have a significant impact on the Red Sox' post-season chances.
Their chances of winning the AL East is half a percent lower after the trade which is not a significant change. The Red Sox winning percentage against key competition in the American League is unchanged with Jason Bay as the regular left-fielder. With Tampa Bay not showing signs of letting up and the Yankees getting better by the day, the defending World Series champion Red Sox have just a 52 percent chance of even making the playoffs. If they can get into the playoffs they are given a strong 15 percent chance of winning the World Series. However, as of today their overall chance of repeating is just 7.5 percent. This might just be self-appeasement/justification, but I'm ok with that... |

I see Manny in pinstripes next season.
